Giustino Varrassi, MD, PhD, is a world-renowned figure in Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. He currently serves as the President of the Paolo Procacci Foundation in Rome, an organization dedicated to research and education in the field of pain. His career is marked by exceptional leadership in academic, clinical, and institutional settings at an international level.

His academic and clinical background includes:

  • Full Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of L’Aquila, where he also held coordination roles for numerous research and specialization programs.
  • Director of Department and of Complex Units of Anesthesia, Intensive Care, and Pain Medicine at major hospital facilities in the Abruzzo region.
  • Rector of the University of L’Aquila (from 1982 to 1985), demonstrating a solid competence in the management of academic institutions.

At an international level, Prof. Varrassi has held roles of the highest prestige, including:

  • President of the European Pain Federation (EFIC).
