Prof. François Mach is an expert in the development, clinical tracking, and progression of atherosclerotic diseases. He earned his medical degree in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, before completing a post-doctoral research fellowship at Harvard under Professor Peter Libby in Boston. He was appointed full Professor of Cardiology in 2000 and has served as the Head of the Cardiology Department at the Geneva University Hospital since 2002. He also served as the President of the Swiss Society of Cardiology between 2012 and 2014.
Professor Mach has published more than 500 high-impact articles, accumulating an H-index greater than 100, and is responsible for leading several Swiss clinical cohorts of atherothrombotic patients. His clinical research specializes heavily in cardiovascular prevention and lipidology. Showing strong influence in establishing international medical standards, he was one of the three co-chairs for the ESC 2019 Lipid Guidelines, a co-chair for the ESC 2021 Prevention Guidelines, and currently co-chairs the 2025 ESC/EAS Focus Lipid guidelines.
