Alejandro Barbagelata, MD, is a highly distinguished cardiologist with over 30 years of clinical and academic expertise. He is a globally recognized specialist in Advanced Heart Failure, Cardiogenic Shock, and Acute Myocardial Infarction. Dr. Barbagelata currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine and as the Vice President of the Duke University Cooperative Cardiovascular Society (DUCCS).

His career is marked by significant clinical and scientific contributions, including the development of the Sgarbossa Criteria for identifying myocardial infarction in the presence of left bundle-branch block. He has directed heart failure and transplant programs at the University of Texas Medical Branch and currently leads a postgraduate program at the Catholic University in Buenos Aires, having educated over 600 physicians across Latin America. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and has been instrumental in establishing international research databanks.
