Acetazolamide and other related carbonic anhydrase inhibitors have had a long history of effectiveness in prevention and treatment of acute mountain sickness and remain the standard of care for this indication.
Indeed, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors play an important role in several hypoxic conditions.
Prof. Erik Swenson from the Department of Medicine, University of Washington, Seattle WA, USA;
is at present the major worldwide recognized expert on carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
We will discuss with Prof. Swenson all the possible indications of acetazolamide in cardiology.
